Salary Range: $26.00 per hour (plus $2/hour for hours worked between 11 pm and 7 am local time)

Overview of the role
Our Crisis Counselors do the work Trevor was founded to do: supporting LGBTQ youth who need someone to talk to. A Crisis Counselor is primarily responsible for supporting LGBTQ youth on TrevorText and TrevorChat, or TrevorLifeline, our life affirming crisis services programs for LGBTQ youth. In addition to providing direct crisis counseling, Crisis Counselors are responsible for key administrative tasks required to provide high-quality, continuous crisis support.
Who You Are
- Experienced Demonstrated knowledge, cultural competency of the youth we serve, and proven successful performance through coursework or relevant professional experience in a crisis care,contact center, or customer care setting.
- Collaborator Experienced in fostering an environment where different opinions and approaches can be entertained, considered, and appreciated while working as a team to find a resolution
- Communicator Proven skill in distilling complex information into compelling, easily digestible narratives; presents information in an inspiring and persuasive way

What You'll Do
- Provide suicide prevention and crisis intervention counseling to LGBTQ young people nationwide via text, chat, and/or phone calls
- Complete 33 hours of direct service work per week, with the additional time spent conducting administrative tasks
- Adhere to performance measures with regard to handle time and utilization
- Follows all protocols and procedures related to taking time off
- Adhere to all policies and protocols
- Build trust and provide a safer space for youth to explore issues surrounding sexuality, gender identity and suicidal ideation
- Successfully complete mandatory training
- Assist with administrative tasks per the discretion of the Crisis Services Manager
- Adhering to on-shift and all other guidance provided by on-shift supervisor manager while working with a team of Crisis Counselors (Volunteer and Staff)
